What Steps Should be Taken to Deal with Migraine Headaches
Migraine is a neurological syndrome characterized by a changed body perception, severe headache, and nausea. Physiologically, migraine headaches are a neurologist condition, more common in women than men.
The word migraine is borrowed from Old French. Migraigne (originally "megrim", but spelled back in 1777 in contemporary French models). The French term is derived from vulgar pronunciation Latin word hemicrania, in which the term itself is based on Greek hemicrania, from the Greek root for "half" and "skull".
Migraine movements, also known as headaches, usually feel throbbing on one or both sides of the head around the temple area, forehead, to the eye. Under certain conditions, migraine headaches can even cause nausea, vomiting, and even extreme sensitivity to light and sound around.
2 Types of Migraine Disease
Migraine (commonly called migraine) is divided into 2 major groups, namely:
1. Regular Migraine (migraine without aura)
Most migraine sufferers get into this type. Common migraine is characterized by headache pulsating on one side with moderate to severe intensity and progressively worse during activity.
This migraine is also accompanied by nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light, sound, and odor. The headache will heal in 4 to 72 hours, even if not treated.
2. Classic Migraine (migraine with aura)
In the classical type, migraine is usually preceded by a symptom called aura, which occurs within 30 minutes before migraine. Classic migraine accounts for 30% of all migraines.
Causes of migraine
The exact cause of migraine is still unclear. It is thought that the presence of hyperactivity of the brain's electrical impulses increases blood flow in the brain, resulting in the dilation of the cerebral blood vessels and the inflammatory process.
This widening and inflammation causes other pain and symptoms, such as nausea. The heavier the inflammation that occurs, the more severe the migraine is suffered. It is known that genetic factors contribute to the onset of migraine.
Migraine can be triggered by food, stress, and changes in daily routine activities, although it is unclear how and why it can cause migraine. Migraine triggers include:
Consumption of certain foods, such as chocolate, MSG, and coffee
Excessive sleep or lack of sleep
Do not eat
Changes in weather or air pressure
Stress or emotional stress
Very stinging smell or cigarette smoke
A very bright light or a reflection of sunlight.
Symptoms of migraine
There are two symptoms of migraine that must be known for headaches can be directly treated, namely:
Early Symptoms
One or two days before the migraine arises, the patient usually develops early symptoms such as weakness, excessive yawning, desperate for a food junction (eg brown), irritability, and anxiety.
Aura: Only found on classic migraines. It usually occurs within 30 minutes before the onset of migraine. Aura may be a visual disorder such as seeing wavy lines, bright light, dark spots, or can not see objects clearly. Other aura symptoms are tingling or a tingling sensation in the hand.
Some people can not say words properly, feel numb in hand, shoulder, or face, or feel weak on one side of their body, or feel confused.
Patients can experience only one symptom or some symptoms, but these symptoms do not occur simultaneously but alternately. An aura symptoms usually disappear when a headache or other aura symptoms develop. Sometimes symptoms persist at the onset of headaches.
The patient feels the throbbing pain on one side of the head, often felt behind the eyes. Pain may move on the other side of the next attack, or on both sides. Pain ranges from moderate to severe.
Other symptoms that often accompany migraine include:
Excessive sensitivity to light, sound, and smell
Nausea and vomiting
Symptoms more severe if the physical activity
Without treatment, headaches usually heal itself in 4 to 72 hours.
Final Symptoms
After the headache heals, the patient may feel pain in his muscles, weakness, or even feel the joy of being short. These symptoms disappear within 24 hours after the loss of headache.
Worldwide, migraines account for 25% of women and 10% of men. Women are two to three times more likely to get migraines than men. Migraines most commonly affect adults (ages 20 to 50 years), but as they get older, the severity and frequency decreases.
Migraine is usually a lot about teenagers and even children can experience migraines, either with or without aura. The risk of experiencing migraine is greater in people who have a family history of migraine sufferers.
